Giveaways, why you should have one and how to do it right.
Giveaways are a great way to increase traffic to your site, blog, youtube or social media. Here are some tips to running a successful giveaway.
1. Pick you item to giveaway. Don't have anything to giveaway, have very little to giveaway or simply just can't afford to have one? Consider contacting a company to do a collaborative giveaway. Adore Box does this all the time with our Brand Ambassadors and other companies. You can also find another blogger/ vlogger/ social media person with your same demographic and see if they are willing to do a collaborative giveaway.
2. Collaborative giveaways. It's about pairing yourself with someone else's audience and increasing yours. Doing this at least every few months is ideal.
3. Create Action. Get people to do things for the giveaways, see below on how.
a. Increasing your blog stats. A great way to do this with a giveaway is to get people to comment of posts. Have the sign up in a mailing list or something like that. Remember to mention the giveaway every blog post during the time the giveaway is running.
b. Increasing your vlog subscriber. Have them subscribe and comment something, it can even be as asinine as what their favorite color is. Remember to mention the giveaway every vlog during the time the giveaway is running.
c. Increasing your social media followers. Have them follow, repost, and/or tag you to be an official entry. (Of have them screenshot and follow you on snapchat)
4. Promoting. Promote your giveaway on your most popular channel but have the giveaway on your least popular channel. What does this mean? If you get 50K hits on your blog every month and only have 200 followers on instagram, promote your giveaway on your blog but have it benefit your instagram as stated above.
5. Too many giveaways or the giveaways are too big. If you have too many giveaways, are posting them too often without content in between or the giveaways are too big (ie you are giving away 100 items and have listed them all individually), consider toning it down. You may lose followers/ subscriber if you overdo it.
6. Streamline. Giveaways should look to be part of the whole of what you do and not look like it's all you do. If you have a lifestyle blog and you have slowed down posting lifestyle photos on social media because you are doing a giveaway or simply because it's coincidence, you may alienate your audience and lost them instead of gaining.
7. Great giveaway photo. Don't ever forget to have a great giveaway photo and put somewhere on the photo the word giveaway. This can make it stand out in a sea of posts. We use the app Font Candy to do this, it's Free in the iTunes store. Click here to see one of our pasts giveaways.
8. Terms & Conditions. Terms & conditions can sometimes be lengthy, consider posting them on your blog and referencing them. Things to consider: Where you are willing to ship. Value of items including shipping. How long a winner has to get back to you. Age of winner. How the winner is chosen. How many items you have to giveaway.
9. Verify. Verify that the winner fulfills the terms and conditions and that the person you have picked has fulfilled all requirements.
10. How to pick a winner. This is something you want to figure out. We like to pick our winners at random, however we look at every single entry.
11. Announcing the winner. Make sure you verify first and that you have communicated with the winner to make sure everything is right. This is a great post to have, include the winner of the giveaway. People love to be involved and this makes the giveaway transparent. If people don't know who won, they will question the next giveaway and whether it's legitimate.
